A Journey into Sonic 4: Episode 1 And What It Has To Offer
The Sonic series was once the epitome of gaming, with the initial couple of games topping the charts every time thanks to their vibrant, enjoyable and accessable gaming. The release of new-gen consoles and higher expectations led to Sega trying out new methods with the tried and tested formula; introducing 3D terrains, on-the-rail games and more. Lately, Sonic has deviated further, with titles recreating Sonic as a knight, a werehog, and more. After years of mourning, followers of the classic are to get their needs realised by the newest game in the franchise; Sonic 4: Episode 1.
While some of the latest titles within the franchise have been great, Sonic 4: Episode 1 would seem to be what followers have been waiting to be made for years; with a return to to the original gaming experience. In Sonic 4: Episode 1, Sonic brings back his side-scrolling adventures, with terrain widely reminiscent of those viewed in the classic games, such as the Green Hill Zone. The surplus characters are left at home, even trusty sidekick Tails absent from the release. Considered to be a sequel to Sonic & Knuckles, the game has Sonic strike out on his own for fresh adventures.
Without doubt, the present generation of consoles will deliver Sonic 4: Episode 1 with attractive visuals. In spite of being a side-scroller, the character models have been rendered in 3D, giving a widely polished finish. The colours are more vibrant than before and the myriad terrain features we fondly remember, including the loops-the-loops, are well realised. The title also supports high-definition, and thus has the promise to look even better.
This game will appear on Wiiware, PSN and Xbox live and as the game's title suggests, more adventures are to follow. Will these enjoyable little offerings help carry Sonic to the top? Only time can tell. However for those who loved the look and feel of the classics, Sonic 4: Episode 1 will be a refreshing return to the award-winning method.
