other PC forum sites
i have tried every conceivable combination of methods to format the C drive, nothing worked, nothing.
i tried to run the same install CD but it wont give me the option to format first.
i have gone thru the computer management route from my computer folder.
I dont know what i did but now it is warning me that I have to activate the CD in order to continue using it.
i need to reformat the C drive and reinstall the same XP that i was running for a whole year. I do have everything that was on it backed up.
I am at my wits end. unfortunately, i dont have the money to buy a new one. but i do have a sledge hammer though.
can someone give me step by step instructions or direct me where i can find it.
thank you
Z
Make sure you have all your drivers before you rebuild (especially your network)
hit F2 (this works with dell and HP machines) to get into the bios.
scroll to where you have the boot up sequence. set it to cd/dvd drive. You are telling it to look at the cd drive 1st before loading up windows.
save and get out of the bios.
put the XP cd in and boot up the computer again. It should ask you to run from the CD. hit any key and you can start installing windows
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now at this point it will look for old copies of windows. you can exit out of that. Just read everything and it is pretty straight forward.
As long as you have everything backed up you can wipe the drive and partitions completely. it will ask you to reformat. do so as NTFS.
just click next, next, next. Very straight forward at this point.
Months after Gingerbread's arrival, HTC Sense remains fussy, users can't get no satisfaction (Engadget)
Many HTC Sense users have experienced less than ideal conditions ever since
their upgrade to Gingerbread. In an issue that's likely tied to the operating
system's new memory management techniques, we've seen the launcher
sporadically restart upon return to the home screen, and in rarer cases, cause
Sense to revert entirely to its factory settings. While the glitch is hardly
new, it's rather well documented and the longstanding nature demands a proper
_(and expedient) _update from HTC. Until that moment comes, we've included a
few tips to help affected users get through the day.
First, the most straightforward solution involves using an alternate launcher,
such as ADW, Go or LauncherPro. If you want to keep Sense and its goodies, you
can _try_ to keep widget use to a minimum, but if you're willing to gain root
access, the command "echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >/data/local.prop" has also proven
successful at holding Sense in memory. Of course, dropping Sense entirely and
replacing it with an AOSP ROM is another solution. Regardless of which route
you choose, we hope you'll sound off in the comments and join us in the call
for an update.
