Using Social Media To Successfully Market Your Food Wagon
During the last one or two years, a new phenomena has been sweeping over urban centres across America. Connoisseur Food Trucks became very popular and in some cities, not a day goes by that you don't see at least a couple of these vans on the streets serving up their culinary creations. The wagons are a big hit with the 9 to 5 crowd who are looking for quality, cost-effective food during their lunch breaks, a point when the Food Trucks make a point of occupying curbs and parking lots near busy business centres.
In Granada Hills, CA - a locally grown food wagon festival has sprouted up each Wednesday and Fri. evening with 40 lorries lining the key street running through the town's financial district. Plenty of the wagons at this event are less than 3 months old , an indication that this Gourmet Food Truck trend is doing nothing except gaining traction.
While the price associated with beginning a food van is undeniably less expensive than opening a diner, it is anything but cheap. The average "hot dog" style food cart costs about $2000, while refurbished lorries for driving and vending can cost as much as $40,000 and a brand new truck can run up to $75,000.
With so much at stake, it is vital for all Food Lorries to maximize their exposure. Most have become dependent on the latest popularity of social media to do that goal. By taking advantage of the fans and supporters on services like Facebook and Twitter, food trucks can market themselves in real time. Real time promoting is of imperative significance, because these food trucks are consistently changing locations.
So what are the best paths to use social media to market your food van online? The very first thing to do is to create Facebook and Twitter accounts that match your food lorry name. Once this has been accomplished, you'll want to spend some time finding other pages and accounts that are relevant to the food wagon industry and start to friend or follow them. Many of these accounts follow or buddy everybody that follows or friends them.
Once you have a nucleus of fans and proponents, you can start to do the work of marketing your pages in the physical world. Attach signs to your Food Lorry that mention your facebook and twitter accounts. Offer kickbacks or front of line passes to individuals who friend or follow you on the web. Run promotions and giveaways that only those that are friending or following you can take part in.
The next step is to keep your customers and clients informed of your location. You need to start a dialogue with your followers, but must be careful not to talk TOO much. There's nothing worse then having someone in your update stream who is constantly tweeting or sharing on facebook. It's the most effective way to get removed from a friend list. Offering worth and making the conversation about what you do for your clients is the simplest way to insure that your tweets and shares will be appreciated.
Advertising your social media campaign across all of your marketing properties is also significant. Facebook and Twitter accounts should be on van wraps, your business cards, your website, and any other place where your business has a listing, especially online directories.
There's more competition in the gourmet food truck space every day, but by concentrating on your social media methodology and having a plan for the long term, you can improve your odds of outlasting your competitors and creating a devoted fan-base.

What was those tastey hot dog egg rolls at Disney's food cart at the exit of the Pirates of the Caribbean???
In the late 80's and 90's there was a food cart at the exit of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride in Orlando's magic kingdom.
They served these fried egg roll styled pigs n the blanket finger foods.
My wife and I always looked forward to getting a half dozen of those and they stopped offering them.
Does anyone know what they were called? or a recipe? Ive searched and searched with no luck.
Please help.....
You might try wrapping 1/2 a Pillsbury croissant roll around a vienna sausage & baking it. My mom used to make these and it sounds kind of like what you're describing.
